Is your MLM too old?

If the Network Marketing (MLM) company you're thinking about joining has been around for a long time (ten years or more) there is the possibility that it is being perceived by many has having gone stale or that the opportunity has become saturated. That may be an unfair perception but it is what it is and it will make it harder for the average person to succeed. But you shouldn't let that prevent you from at least considering an older (I prefer the term "well established") MLM company. Here are a few reasons you may want to consider joining an older/well established network marketing company:

Stability

Many of the older companies have been around so long because they are financially rock solid. Many are privately owned, cash rich, and debt free. This allows them to re-invest huge amounts of cash back into the business to innovate and improve product lines, and to develop new ways to support their distributors through training, incentives and compensation.

Reputation

Companies like Mary Kay, Avon, Pampered Chef, and Tupperware have been around for years and have established themselves as household words. They all have legions of loyal customers who swear by their products. Their independent distributors are equally loyal. Amway, whose reputation was badly tarnished a few years ago, has managed to re-invent itself to the point the company has an indoor sports and entertainment stadium named after it (the Amway Arena is home to the NBA Orlando Magic). On the opposite end of the spectrum are a host of companies that are or have been under investigation, that have been or are in the process of being sued, and companies whose products and promises have not lived up to expectations. Some of these companies continue to grow by expanding into new markets where their poor reputations aren't as well known. There are plenty of MLM review sites on the internet that will provide information to help identify legitimate companies as well as those with poor or damaged reputations.

The Products

The older the company is, the more extensive its product line. The more extensive the product line the more likely a distributor will be able to find products that appeal to his or her customer. Amway probably has the most extensive product line of any MLM company. It offers 450 household cleaning and health and beauty products and hundreds of well known products from affiliate manufacturers.

A final note; due to saturation--perceived or real--you may find it more difficult to build a downline in one of these older, well established companies. But if you're a true entrepreneur you should have no problem establishing a retail customer base selling products for any one of these "well established" companies.

My name is Roland. I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with Network Marketing. It began when I was serving in the Navy. I knew a guy who was getting out to embark on a Network Marketing career with Amway. I'd never heard of Amway before but it sure as heck sounded like some sort of crazy cult that this guy had gotten himself involved in. A few years later I found myself at the end of my own enlistment and upon my departure I was introduced to a Network Marketing company called Nu Skin. Margaree, my wife of 30 years, fell in love with the products, I fell in love with the compensation plan, and we decided to become distributors. To make a long story short; we quit after a few weeks. As the economy continued to sputter and the pressure for me to support my family increased I discovered National Safety Associates. I got to work with the infamous Bill Gouldd. I sold a few water filters, attended a few motivational “events” and actually signed up three people. We all quit after a few weeks. Then--thank God!--I got a real job and Margaree and I decided we would never again consider Network Marketing.
