Acres of Diamonds
By Russell H. Conwell

I am astonished that so many people should care to hear this story over again. Indeed, this lecture has become a study in psychology; it often breaks all rules of oratory, departs from the precepts of rhetoric, and yet remains the most popular of any lecture I have delivered in the fifty-seven years of my public life. I have sometimes studied for a year upon a lecture and made careful research, and then presented the lecture just once -- never delivered it again. I put too much work on it. But this had no work on it -- thrown together perfectly at random, spoken offhand without any special preparation, and it succeeds when the thing we study, work over, adjust to a plan, is an entire failure.

The "Acres of Diamonds" which I have mentioned through so many years are to be found in this city, and you are to find them. Many have found them. And what man has done, man can do. I could not find anything better to illustrate my thought than a story I have told over and over again, and which is now found in books in nearly every library.

Whatever Happened to Dora Moore?

This four part story was inspired by a period in the life of Dora Maar.  Dora Maar (November 22, 1907 – July 16, 1997) was a French photographer, poet and painter of Croatian descent, best known for being a lover and muse of Pablo Picasso.

How to Help People Get What They Want

If you believe in your network marketing product or service and you're having difficulty making sales or finding recruits chances are you are not contacting enough people.  I know, contacting people can be scary. You know what it's like to be approached by someone trying to get you to buy something you don't want or need and you don't want to inflict that same feeling on other people. Plus you know some (OK, a lot) of people aren't into (OK, hate) Network Marketing (OK, MLM). So you make up excuses not to contact more people. So, what can you do? First, you have to develop the mindset that when you contact someone you are not doing it to interrupt their life--you're doing it to help them.  But if you haven't done any research or asked any questions how do you know HOW you can help them?  Start out by saying hello, or commenting on something they said, or thanking them for something they've done. Everyone loves to be noticed and appreciated as long as it's sincere.  Break the ice, be gracious, and be patient.

Excerpt From "Lunch at NoBonay"

Have You Ever Been In Love?

Lunch_at_nobonay

"Have you ever been in love?” she asked taking him by surprise.

He swallowed his tuna and placed his chopsticks on the mat.

“Let me tell you a story,” he said. “My parents, my brother, my sisters and I were on Long Island visiting grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles and cousins on my Dad’s side of the family. It was a beautiful summer afternoon. I was somewhere between five and nine years old. My Aunt Denise, very pretty, maybe seventeen at the time was holding my hand leading me through the bleachers. We were at a park to watch my dad and his brothers and their friends play softball.”

Here are some students who overcame the fear of failure and learned to draw; Student Drawings

So let it be written, so let it be done!

Pharaoh

It's only a wish if it's not written down.

I originally read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill more than 20 years ago.  I enjoyed reading it and I thought I learned a lot of great information I could use to reach my financial goals.  As time went by I forgot most of what I learned and went back to my regular daily routine.

Then, about a year ago, I received a copy of it and I told myself I would read it again and this time put what I learned into practice.

So I read it again and this time I wrote my own assessment of each chapter.  I posted these assessments on my blog and then I got distracted and never got around to putting what I learned into practice.

Then one day I posted a sentence from the book on Twitter and someone replied and all of a sudden a light bulb went off.

I posted the famous quote, “Knowledge is power.”

Someone replied, “Knowledge is potential power!”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Read Think and Grow Rich,” he replied.

“I did read it!” I responded.

“Read it again,” he said.

So I search through the book and I found the chapter that discussed “knowledge” and found the part where Mr. Hill describes knowledge as “potential power.”

Basically, all the knowledge in the world is worthless if you don’t actually use it.  In order to use the power of knowledge you have to first know what you want.  In order to use the potential power of knowledge you have to put it into action.  In order to put it in action, you have to have a plan.  In order to have a plan, it must be written down.

Let me repeat that last part;

It must be written down!

5 Things You Can Do to Change the Job You Hate Into the Job You Love

Do you hate your job?  You’re not alone. It doesn’t matter if it’s a cushy corporate job, a safe and secure government job, a part time job, or a job as a salesperson in a retail store; a large percentage (SOME SAY 80%) of people will admit that they hate their jobs.  Often you have to accept the line of work you’re in due to circumstances; you have a family to support, you need a place to live, etc.  That’s understandable.  If you have to stay at the job you’re in, consider changing your attitude about your job.

The best and easiest way to do something well is to do something you love.  If you do something that you love you’re more likely to do it more often.  You’re also more likely to seek information that will improve your ability to do it.   For example, people who truly love their jobs are constantly seeking information that will improve their ability to perform their jobs.

The best and easiest way to do something consistently is to do something you love.  If you do something that you love you’re more likely to do it on a regular basis.  For example, people who truly love their jobs consistently outperform their co-workers.

The best and easiest way to do something and not worry what other people think is to do something you love.  If you do something you love you know exactly why you love it so you don’t care what people think because they can’t see what you see.  They don’t know what you know.  For example, people who love sales tend to do well because they don’t care what people think of them and they are unafraid of rejection.  People who hate sales do poorly and usually quit as soon as something “better” comes along.

The best and easiest way to do something that you would be proud to encourage others do is to do something you love.  People who love their jobs tend to smile more and have a higher level of enthusiasm and professionalism than people who hate their jobs.  This is reflected in their pride and attitude.

The best and easiest way to do something that you would be proud to teach other people to do is to do something you love.  People who love their jobs make great mentors and are more than happy to teach positive minded, hard workers with great attitudes.  People who love their jobs can usually tell if a co-worker sees things the way they see things.  People who hate their jobs make horrible mentors--their negative attitude would be an adverse influence on their co-workers.

You don’t have to stay in a job you hate.  You can look for a different job.  If for some reason you can’t get a different job, remember this; If you can’t be with the job you love, love the job you’re with.

“You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” - Steve Jobs
